Another blow for the Basil Read Ford Team

Get to know Jan Habig...

Ask most rally enthusiasts who are the most successful South African rally drivers of all time, and the name Jan Habig would not easily feature. But that's not something that bothers Habig. He has his own way of doing things and seeking publicity and recognition is certainly not one of them. He does things his way.

That is how he has become the third most successful rally driver in the country with 36 national rally wins behind his name. The number is equal to that of Jan Hettema, an icon in the hey-day of South African rallying, but Hettema won the SA Rally Drivers' Championship five times - one less than Habig.

At 53, most rally drivers would have retired, but not Habig, although his approach to the sport is somewhat different now than in the earlier years of his career.

And that is why he continues, as he says: "I am doing it for the fun and the love of the sport. I still enjoy rallying and will continue doing it for as long as I get satisfaction out of competing."

On this web site, you will be able to meet up with one of South Africa's most humble, but at the same time, most successful rally drivers. And get to know him - once you know him, you will be a fan.
