Habig second on first day of VW Rally
20 July 2013
Day
one of the Volkswagen Rally is done and dusted, and it was a good day in the office for Jan Habig and Robert Paisley in the
Basil Read Ford Fiesta.
"We started second on the road today, so it was difficult to gauge what the competition
was doing behind us, but our goal was to emerge unscathed and we did a good job of that," said Habig. "The new
stages were very tight and twisty, whilst the others were fast and flowing - a good mix overall. The car feels really solid,
and our set-up for this event has been spot-on. We are in a strong second position behind Mark Cronjé and Robin Houghton in
the other Ford, and a good 35 seconds ahead of Leroy Poulter."
When asked what the strategy was for Day 2 of the Eastern Cape event, Habig replied: "To
stay out of trouble!"
The rally resumes on Saturday morning in Jeffrey's Bay and finishes at Kings Beach, Port
Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon.
