A steady day for Habig
17 August 2013
Former
multiple South African national rally champions Jan Habig and Robert Paisley (Basil Read Ford Fiesta) were in a handy second
place after day one of the Ford Rally in Gauteng on Friday.
"It was a steady day and we steered clear of rocks, but the set-up was clearly not 100%
for the sandy conditions in some of the stages," said Habig.
The event, the fifth round of the 2013 SA Rally Championship, was run in the Cullinan area
east of Pretoria.
"Although we managed to post good times, there is most certainly going to be a challenge
for the podium positions as we go into the second day on Saturday," said Habig.
At the end of day 1 Habig and Paisley found themselves in second position, 32 seconds adrift
of the similar Ford of Mark Cronje and Robin Houghton.
"Tomorrow is going to be a tough day in the cockpit, and we will be giving it our best
shot to bag as many championship points as we can," said Habig.
The rally was due to restart at 08h00 on Saturday with the same stages being run, and the the
finish scheduled for approximately 13h00.
