Habig heads for spectacular Garden Route Rally
11 November 2013
The
2013 SA Rally Championship finale, the Garden Route Rally, will be the one event where spectators will be treated to a
display of man and machine at their best.
For the Basil Read Ford Fiesta S2000 crew of Jan Habig and Robert Paisley, their bid for
overall championship honours was dealt a bitter blow in the second half of the season, but the team will be determined to
finish the year on a high note.
Marius Heyns, CEO of Basil Read said: "We are pleased with the Basil Read team's
performance in this year's SA Rally Championship and wish them every success in the finale."
"We have had a spate of bad luck in the last few events, and managed to compete under
the Super Rally rules and gain some points, but with the overall 2013 Championship wrapped up, I think a tough event lies
ahead," said Habig.
"Ford has been dominant in the championship this year, but the other teams have been
hard at work and the competition from Toyota and Volkswagen for the final podium spots of the year, is going to see teams
commit themselves 110% in this event," he added.
"It is also great to see rallying return to some more traditional rally roads, and there
is a good combination of fast, sweeping stages and some tough, tighter more technical ones. The roads are also relatively
unknown and were used last year for the first time in many years, adding an element of excitement to the event,"
concluded Habig.
It is never easy to predict a winner of an event, and any one of eight S2000 competitors can
take an overall win. The Fords have had another phenomenal year having won every event with a first and second placing in
each. The Basil Read team of Habig and Paisley and 2013 Champions Mark Cronjé and Robin Houghton in the No 24 Fiesta would
certainly enjoy ending the season in these familiar positions.
The Garden Route Rally starts at the Garden Route Mall on Friday 15 November at 11h00 with
some exciting rallying in the Karatara Forests and challenging stages over the Outeniqua Mountains. The rally enthusiasts
can expect some spectacular competition over the two days with the finish on Saturday back at the Garden Route Mall at about
14h45.
